Ecological Context
Coreopsis tripteris occupies open woods, moist prairies, and woodland margins across the eastern tallgrass prairie and mixed-wood plains. In Ontario it is critically imperiled (S1), restricted to the Lake Erie Lowland ecoregion near Windsor and Essex County. Michigan Flora records it in dry to wet prairies, meadows, open oak forests, and roadside clearings. Habitat associations include sandy to loamy soils in mesic to slightly dry conditions [S4+S7].

Roles
Fortress/Barrier, Pollinator Attractor

S73/S29/S72 Evidence: Fortress/Barrier: S61 keyword match: spines? (supporting signal only)] | Pollinator Attractor: S73 [HIGH]: S64 Xerces listed (source-classified)]

Notes
OWSL lists several tallgrass prairie and meadow companions including switchgrass, goldenrods, and asters. These pairings reflect natural prairie community associations where tall Coreopsis provides late-season bloom among grasses and earlier-blooming composites, extending the pollinator resource window into autumn.
