Ecological Context
A prairie and savanna specialist of the central and eastern United States. Grows in dry to mesic thin woods, river bottoms, open prairies, and calcareous fens. In Michigan it is very rare, known from a fen and a prairie-like roadside strip, often associated with Zizia aurea, Cypripedium candidum, and Eryngium yuccifolium. Nearest documented populations to the Outaouais are in the Ridge and Valley ecoregion of Pennsylvania and Maryland, on limestone outcrops and wooded bluffs.
